SAF 2016: FAREWELL

Sending many thanks to Papertrey Ink for another wonderful Stamp A Faire event. As always it was a very well thought out and presented free online resource for everyone to enjoy. A special thank you to Nichole Heady, all the designers and those behind the scenes at Papertrey Ink who put so much time and effort into each of the classes. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute.

SAF 2016: COLOUR BLOCKING WITH LEXI DALY

10 PM: COLOUR BLOCKING WITH LEXI DALY

For this class Lexi Daly inspired us with a video on how to create our own Andy Warhol inspired pop art card. This is a great technique for using lots of colours on a card to make a strong vibrant image.

I used a floral image from Brushed blooms by Papertrey Ink. Inks, dies and cardstock all from PTI.

SAF 2016: Watercolour like a master with Kay Miller

8PM: WATERCOLOUR LIKE A MASTER WITH KAY MILLER

This super video tutorial was given by Kay Miller. It is hard to believe that this is the first time this talented lady has ever presented a video tutorial. It was excellent. Clear, straightforward and very easy to follow. What an lovely accent. I could listen to her all day.

Kay said, "I am going to show you how you can create beautiful watercolor works of art on your cards, with just a few simple stamping supplies and dye inks. With this easy technique you’ll be able to use many of the stamp sets and inks you already have on hand, to mimic the lovely watercolor paintings of the Masters!"

She sure did. I love my cards I made using these techniques.

All the stamps, inks and cardstock are by Papertrey Ink.

SAF 2016: Pointillism play with Heather Nichols

6PM: POINTILLISM PLAY WITH HEATHER NICHOLS

Heather Nichols a super senior designer for Papertrey Ink presented this class. It was a real pleasure to take and follow. I would never have thought of using a tiny little dot stamp as a painting tool. It was a relaxing way to ink up an embossed image and it is something I intend to again.

For my card I used Spring Hills stamp set with various inks from Papertrey Ink.  Cardstock and die used are also from PTI.

SAF 2016: Mastering drips and splatters with Lizzie Jones

4 PM: MASTERING DRIPS AND SPLATTERS WITH LIZZIE JONES

For this class  Lizzie Jones a young vibrant designer over at Papertrey  Ink presented Jackson Pollock and his work and inspired us through her video tutorial to get messy with our paints and inks. This was much easier for me than I thought it would be. Lizzie coaxed me into her world by suggesting to those of us who don't like dark inky fingers to try the colour yellow. Once I had started I pulled out that enchanted evening dark navy blue re inker by Papertrey Ink and splattered away anyway.

My card  uses hibiscus burst, enchanted evening and aqua mist re-inkers. Sentiment from Art with Heart Stamp set and card base enchanted evening. All by Papertrey Ink.

SAF 2016: Masterpiece Inspirations With The Team

2PM: MASTERPIECE INSPIRATIONS WITH THE TEAM

The inspiration and guidance provided for this challenge hit the ball right out of the park. Papertrey Ink's designers created projects using their favourite pieces of art as inspiration. Each and every one of the them were beautiful. It was a hard task to pick one and go with it. Finally I chose this piece by Ralph Hulett. I loved the colours and the blending of colours.

My card was made using stamps from In the Meadow, Petite Places Church mini, and O'Tannenbaum. All stamp sets, inks and cardstock by Papertrey Ink.

SAF 2016: Floral Impressionism with Melissa Phillips

12 PM: FLORAL IMPRESSIONISM WITH MELISSA PHILLIPS

This class by Melissa Phillips was super. Melissa never fails to impress me with her beautiful creations. We were taught how to use white embossing powder combined with ink to create layers that mimic a soft and romantic look. I love trying to mimic Melissa's projects however I just don't have that special artistic style that Melissa gives to complete her projects. I love this special lady's style.

Here is my card.

SAF 2016: Gilded in Gold with Danielle Flanders

10AM: GILDED IN GOLD WITH DANIELLE FLANDERS

For this class we were shown how to and then encouraged to make our own gold embossed stationery and monograms with a product called Liquid Leaf. One of my favourite designers Danielle Flanders
was our tutor for this class. Well lets say I'm a gold jewellery fan so messing about with the gold leaf was right up my alley. Having tried this technique I can definitely say I would use it again. A little of this stuff goes a long way.

Here is my card

SAF 2016: Starry Night with Amy Sheffer

8AM: STARRY NIGHT WITH AMY SHEFFER

The first class of the day was presented by a very talented Papertrey Ink designer Amy Sheffer.
Amy taught us by video how to present a nights sky using our stamping inks and blenders.

Normally I would shy away from messy inky techniques but I loved this though I have the tell tale signs of black and blue fingertips!

Here is my card

SAF 2016: Master Colour Recipes

The first challenge of the day is

7AM: MASTER COLOR RECIPES

Last night we were given a link by PTI to download  " Masters Sketchbook " a collection of colour recipe cards from which we were pick one and create a project of our own. A warm-up to start the day off.

I chose this card.

I am inspired by the colours and the fields, hills and sky. I have pretty much the same views from my windows, though the hills are a little taller and the sky not as blue today.

I love yellow flowers. They are always my first choice to pick up especially in winter. A little glow of sunshine.

I used one of the cards from Betsy Veldman's "Don't Forget to Write kit"  download to case. All inks, stamps, cardstock and dies are by Papertrey Ink.

If you would like to join in today. Here is a link to Nichole Heady's blog.

Stamp A Faire 2016 Gallery Reception

The challenge for Stamp A Faire 2016 gallery reception was to share a project we are most proud of and link to Nichole Heady's blog to have a chance to win a prize.

Painting and drawing are sadly not talents I possess however I have taken inspiration from one of my sons  who is a very talented young artist. He is studying The History of Art and Architecture , Dublin. The first painting he painted from a photo of a cow he took while out hiking one day, the second of my parents garden and the third he painted from a 30 year old photo of my parents.

My card uses the some of the colours from Conor's paintings. The frame is made using the die cuts from Don't Forget to Write Kit by Papertrey Ink. I used this years Stamp A Faire stamp set called Art with Heart for the flowers on watercolour paper and then blended the colours using a fine damp paintbrush. Cardstock all by Papertrey Ink.

For the challenge we were to show something that we had made and that we were most proud of. Looking back through my blog I found this photo of a Christmas craft fair a couple of years ago. I made each and every item in this photo and together with my husband made the stand too. I was so proud of my stall that year.

Monogrammed napkins and tablecloth

I am a great fan of Ikea. I love their products and like to sneak in a very early morning or late evening trip every so often to see what is new in store. Before Christmas I spotted some very good value napkins and tablecloths called gullmaj. They are not pure linen but are very similar and are very reasonably priced at 4 euro for two napkins and 15 euro for the tablecloth. I had wanted to try embroidering monograms for some time so I snapped up some of these great value napkins and cloths and was set to go.

Searching online for a detailed monogram to download to my embroidery/sewing machine I found an online shop called Urban threads com. I used their Mendhika alphabet font. Wanting to get a antique French monogram style I opted to use pastel peach thread no 1017 by Rayon 40 which gave  a very delicate finish. I monogrammed the initials of my sister, my brother in law and my two nephews on each of the napkins and in the four corners of the tablecloth. It was a special Christmas gift for my sister who lives in Australia. While we could not sit down together for Christmas lunch we were connected by the gift of the table setting. She was thrilled with the gift.

I gift wrapped the set using some ribbon from my stash. The little gift tag was made by using a stamp set and die from Design a Softie kit by Papertrey Ink.

The following pictures are from the Ikea website showing the tablecloth and napkins before I  personalised them.

PTI's 9th Birthday Celebrations Challenges Day 2

Papertrey Ink is celebrating it's 9th birthday this month. As part of it's festivities they challenge their customers and followers to create a project each day and link the cards on the Nichole Heady's blog.

I plan to take part as much as I can over the next ten days. For todays challenge we were asked to pick an item of clothing in our wardrobe or find something online in fashion and use this item as inspiration for our cards. I decided  to use the lovely stamp set from last years Stamp A Faire called "Fashion Sense". I just love this set. I also used the tiny roses stamps and leaves from "The Sweet Life", another of Papertrey Inks stamp sets.  The inks and cardstock used were also from PTI.

My inspiration came from this photo below of a dress by Dolce Gabbana called the Mikado dress.
